This South Carolina 6th Cavalry Regiment was also called the 16th Battalion SC Partisan Rangers - Aiken's Regiment, the 1st Reg. SC Partisan Rangers, and The Dixie Rangers. It was formed in January 1863, using the 16th South Carolina Cavalry Battalion as its nucleus. Some of the men were from Columbia and the Citadel Academy.The regiment fought throughout 1863 and 1864 in Virginia, then transferred to South Carolina in advance of Sherman’s invasion, ending the war at Monroe’s Crossroads in North Carolina.Companies Many of the men of the SC 6th Cavalry were from the Columbia area.
